Halle Berry opened up about the intense decision she faced nearly 25 years ago when agreeing to film the nude sex scene in Monster’s Ball, a choice she feared could end her acting career. Speaking on the Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend podcast, Berry revealed her uncertainty about the impact of taking on such a bold role early in her career, highlighting her determination to stay true to her convictions.
At the time, Berry had not previously done nudity on screen, and her decision carried significant professional risk. She explained,
“People around me said, because at that time I hadn’t done nudity, and the sex scene was like a big, like it had a big red light on it,”
emphasizing the warning signs she saw.
“I felt like this was either gonna be one of the best things I ever did or it would end my career.”
Choosing to embrace the scene despite the fears, Berry stated,
“If this ends my career, then I’m ending my own career on my own beliefs.”
