Liam Neeson has revealed to RTÉ Entertainment that he would be honoured to narrate the opening segment of The Late Late Toy Show every year. The acclaimed Irish actor, known for his distinctive voice, delivered a memorable gravelly introduction for December’s Grinch-themed opening, which became one of the most notable in the show’s history.
When RTÉ Entertainment asked if he would be willing to reprise this role annually, the Ballymena native responded, “Listen, I’d be honoured.” He further reflected on the experience, saying,
“I loved doing it this year, and I know it’s a kind of institution now in RTÉ, you know, at Christmas. I loved doing it.”
Current Projects Highlight Neeson’s Range and Dedication
Alongside his interest in The Late Late Toy Show, Liam Neeson is currently starring in the comedy-horror Cold Storage, which is now showing in cinemas. In this film, he plays a former government agent who teams up with two nightshift workers, portrayed by Joe Keery and Georgina Campbell, to stop a deadly fungus threatening humanity.
Reflecting on his experience filming Cold Storage, Neeson said,
“It was a joy to do, I loved every day.”
He praised his younger co-stars, sharing,
“The both of them inspired me when we were shooting. I did not know Joe’s [work]. Stranger Things, I hadn’t seen it. Georgina, I did not know.”
He admired their natural chemistry and professionalism, noting,
“They had a wonderful, easy, unforced chemistry together. They made David Koepp’s script, their lines, come alive, and they would add little things to it that only improved it – improved their chemistry.”
“They inspired me, they really did. I thought they were fantastic. Could I have done that at their age? No. And I had to admit that to myself. Their ease in front of a camera, they had quite complicated things to do, keeping the story alive, keeping the little comedic thread going but still keep that tension. That’s like, wow. That was impressive,”
Neeson added.
Neeson Reflects on His Future in Action Roles
Though he is known for tough, physically demanding characters, Neeson is mindful of his age and physical limits. Approaching his 74th birthday this June, he stated,
“The day I can’t do my own fight scenes, then I’ll quit. There’s a couple more I’m going to do that are kind of physical, but that’ll be it – I think.”
His commitment to performing action roles despite advancing age shows his passion for his craft, while also signaling that fans may soon see the end of his rugged on-screen persona.
