Winona Ryder, known for her role in Stranger Things, is set to join the cast of Netflix’s supernatural mystery series Wednesday for its upcoming third season. The addition of Ryder, alongside Jenna Ortega who stars as the show’s title character, marks an exciting expansion of the popular series. Production is currently underway, with more details about the season to be revealed in the future.
Returning Collaborations Bring Depth to the New Season
Ryder, whose notable rise began in the 1980s with Tim Burton’s horror-comedy Beetlejuice, reunites with Burton and Ortega on Tuesday’s series. Ryder will portray a new character named Tabitha. French actress Eva Green will join as Aunt Ophelia Frump, the estranged sister of Morticia Addams, portrayed by Catherine Zeta-Jones. Green also has a history of working with Burton, starring in his 2016 film Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.
Eva Green expressed her enthusiasm about joining the series, saying,
“This show is such a deliciously dark and witty world, I can’t wait to bring my own touch of cuckoo-ness to the Addams family.”
– Eva Green, Actress
Familiar Faces and New Characters Enrich the Cast
The cast announcement video from Netflix featured a welcome feast hosted by Finnish actor Joonas Suotamo as the beloved butler Lurch. Alongside Ryder and Green, Chris Sarandon, known for his role in Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, will appear as Balthazar. Australian actor Noah Taylor, who previously worked with Burton in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, plays Cyrus.

Fred Armisen also joins the series as the eccentric Uncle Fester. Newcomers Oscar Morgan and Kennedy Moyer will take on the roles of Atticus and Daisy, respectively. Fan favorites Jenna Ortega and Emma Myers return as Wednesday and Enid Sinclair, the upbeat werewolf neighbor.
The extended Addams family continues with Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzman reprising their roles as Morticia and Gomez Addams, and Isaac Ordonez returning as Pugsley, Wednesday’s brother.
Season Three Expands the Addams Family Universe
This season also welcomes back Joanna Lumley, Billie Piper, Hunter Doohan, and Joy Sunday, along with George Farmer, Moosa Mostafa, Evie Templeton, Victor Dorobantu, and Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, contributing to an even richer narrative. The series is inspired by Charles Addams’s iconic cartoons, which gave birth to various adaptations, including the 1960s television series and the popular films starring Christina Ricci as Wednesday.
Tim Burton, executive producer of Wednesday, shared his excitement for the new season:
“The addition of some dear friends and past collaborators of mine: Winona, Eva, Chris, Noah; makes this season extra special. I feel very lucky.”
– Tim Burton, Executive Producer
