Disney has announced that Robert Downey Jr. will be the godparent of its newest and largest cruise ship, the Disney Adventure, ahead of its maiden voyage from Singapore scheduled for March 2026. This appointment continues a tradition in maritime culture where a godparent blesses the ship for good fortune before its first journey.
Celebrating a Disney Legend and Marvel Icon
At 60 years old, Downey, famously known for his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was honored as a Disney Legend in 2019. Now, he will take on the symbolic role of godparent for the ship, linking his longtime association with Disney and Marvel stories to this new maritime venture.

Marvel-Themed Attractions and Family Experiences on Board
The Disney Adventure will feature seven themed zones to immerse guests in over a century of Disney storytelling. The ship’s top deck is home to Marvel Landing, a vast area that includes Tony Stark’s Ironcycle Test Run, the first roller coaster on a Disney Cruise Line ship and the longest coaster at sea. Guests can also enjoy the open-air Avengers Assemble! live stage production in Disney Imagination Garden and participate in superhero training and suit prototype workshops at the Marvel WEB Workshop inside the Oceaneer Club, designed especially for younger visitors.
