Moj Mahdara, co-founder of Gwyneth Paltrow’s investment firm Kinship Ventures, has voiced strong frustration with Democrats who opposed Donald Trump’s recent military strike against Iran. Speaking on CNN, Mahdara condemned the lack of backing from Democrats for what she called a crucial national security operation targeting Iran’s leadership, including Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Support for Trump’s Assault on Iran and its Wider Implications
During the interview with Dana Bash, Mahdara emphasized that the Democratic Party needs to move beyond partisan dislike of Trump to grasp the significance of the airstrikes.
“I think it is imperative the Democratic Party wake up and get past their dislike of President Trump and their feelings on international conflicts… This is about national security. This is about what’s possible in the Middle East. This about being a good partner to the Gulf states and what their aspirations are,”
she said.
Mahdara also connected the removal of Iran’s regime to broad geopolitical issues, including matters involving Venezuela, China, and Ukraine. As a self-described committed Democrat, she insisted Americans must place trust in the Iranian people.
“We know this government better than anyone else. When you dismember and decapitate this regime, you are going to see a change in the Middle East, in Venezuela, in China, [and] in Ukraine,”
Mahdara explained.
Comparison to Historic Political Transformations
The entrepreneur compared the potential impact of dismantling Iran’s leadership to major historical events such as the collapse of the Soviet Union and the fall of the Berlin Wall.
“This is a transformational moment for humankind, for security, and, as an American, this is in our interest to complete it,”
she stated.
Public Opinion and Democratic Opposition
Despite this perspective, recent polling from Reuters/Ipsos shows only about one in four Americans support war with Iran. Prominent Democrats, including New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, have publicly criticized the airstrikes. Mahdara expressed her disappointment with her own party’s stance, saying,
“I am a Democrat. I have been a huge Democrat. I am incredibly disappointed with my party. I do not see myself in them at this moment.”
Significance of the Debate Over Military Action Against Iran
The debate surrounding the Iran strike highlights deep divisions within American politics about foreign intervention and national security. Mahdara’s vocal support underscores a faction of Democrats who prioritize strategic alliances in the Middle East despite partisan differences. The controversy is likely to influence ongoing discussions about U.S. policy in the region and the future of relations with Iran, adding tension to an already polarized political environment.
