Jack Schlossberg Slams Ryan Murphy’s ‘Love Story’ as Grotesque

Jack Schlossberg, the nephew of the late John F. Kennedy Jr., publicly condemned Ryan Murphy’s Hulu series Love Story for its portrayal of the relationship between Kennedy and Carolyn Bessette. Speaking on CBS Sunday Morning on March 1, Schlossberg described the show as a “grotesque” depiction that profits off his family’s private history without accuracy or respect, intensifying the ongoing Ryan Murphy Kennedy controversy.

Family Member Voices Strong Criticism Over Series’ Accuracy

Schlossberg expressed deep frustration with Murphy’s approach to the show, questioning the producer’s understanding of the Kennedy family.

“If you want to know someone who’s never met anyone in my family, knows nothing about us, talk to Ryan Murphy,”

Schlossberg stated. He further criticized Murphy by saying,

“The guy knows nothing about what he’s talking about, and he’s making a ton of money on a grotesque display of someone else’s life.”

This is not the first time Schlossberg has challenged Murphy publicly. In July 2025, he took to Instagram to accuse Murphy of profiting from the series without giving back to the causes John F. Kennedy Jr. supported.

“You’re making millions off John, making a public spectacle of it but won’t contribute any of your riches to the causes he championed, or the legacy of public service he represented,”

Schlossberg wrote at the time.

Personal Memories Undermine Producer’s Claims

Schlossberg refuted Murphy’s remarks made on the This Is Gavin Newsom podcast, where Murphy claimed surprise at Schlossberg’s negative reaction and suggested that Schlossberg didn’t remember his uncle. In response, Schlossberg recalled vivid personal memories, saying,

“Hey @ryanmurphyproductions: My earliest memories are of John calling me Jackolatern and ‘the nudist,’ picking me up from school, his Pontiac convertible.”

He continued to share significant moments from his connection to Kennedy, including,

“I remember being the ring bearer at his wedding and the day he died. I remember Wyclef singing at his funeral.”

These detailed recollections highlight the depth of Schlossberg’s personal relationship with his uncle, challenging Murphy’s narrative.

Family Not Consulted on Production, Disrespecting Legacy

Schlossberg also emphasized that the Kennedy family was never involved in the creation of Love Story, underscoring the show’s detachment from their reality.

“For those wondering whether his family was ever consulted, or has anything to do with, the new shows being made about him, the answer is no,”

he declared on his Instagram Stories.

While Schlossberg expressed admiration for his uncle’s memory, he condemned the commercialization of his life’s story without reverence.

“For the record, I think admiration for my Uncle John is great. What I don’t think is great is profiting off of it in a grotesque way,”

he added, reinforcing the seriousness of his objections to the series.

Complex Reality Beneath the Romanticized Portrayal

Love Story gained rapid attention following its debut on February 12, sparking conversations about the dramatized depiction of Kennedy and Bessette’s relationship. According to sources familiar with their private life, the reality was far more complicated than the romanticized version presented on screen.

Insiders shared that their relationship involved intense conflict. One source noted,

“They would have huge fights. Major fights. Crazy fights.”

Additionally, a society insider revealed,

“He made it hard for her. [Carolyn] got the raw end of the deal. She did what she could to keep it together. He was very spoiled.”

This testimony contrasts sharply with the show’s idealized love story narrative and sheds light on the difficulties Carolyn faced during their relationship.

Legacy Under Scrutiny Amid Public Attention

John F. Kennedy Jr., son of President John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, remains an iconic figure whose life and legacy attract public fascination. However, the Kennedy family’s experience with media portrayals like Murphy’s Hulu series reveals tensions between personal history and public storytelling.

Jack Schlossberg’s vocal opposition reflects a broader debate about the ethics of dramatizing real-life figures without thorough consultation. His efforts to protect his uncle’s memory highlight the potential harm of sensationalizing private lives for entertainment.

The Ryan Murphy Kennedy controversy underscores the challenges faced when balancing public interest with family respect, and it raises questions about creative responsibility in biographical dramas. As discussions continue, it remains to be seen whether future projects will incorporate greater sensitivity and input from families affected by these portrayals.
