Three British men pursuing a civil lawsuit against Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey have asked London’s High Court to allow evidence from seven other men claiming sexual assault by Spacey to be presented during a trial planned for later this year. The allegations span several decades, with one claim dating back to the 1970s, highlighting renewed attention on Kevin Spacey sexual assault allegations.
The three plaintiffs assert that Spacey sexually assaulted them between 2000 and 2013. Two of these men previously testified as complainants in Spacey’s 2023 criminal trial in London, where he was acquitted of all related charges. Spacey, a major Hollywood figure before allegations first emerged in 2017, has consistently denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that the acts described either never occurred or were consensual. He did not appear at the recent hearing concerning the expansion of evidence.
Proposed Inclusion of Historical Allegations in Upcoming Trial
The claimants’ legal team, led by Elizabeth-Anne Gumbel, requested permission to introduce testimonies from seven additional men who allege sexual assaults by Spacey: one from the late 1970s, two from the late 1990s, and four from the 2000s and 2010s. Gumbel emphasized that these accounts illustrate a
“propensity to sexually assault young men”
and suggest Spacey may have used his celebrity status to exploit victims.

Spacey’s defense lawyers argue the new allegations lack relevance and do not demonstrate a consistent pattern of behavior, insisting that the claims should not impact the three current cases. Judge Christina Lambert is expected to deliver a ruling on whether the court will admit these additional allegations in due course.
Settlements and Ongoing Litigation Connected to Old Vic Theatre
One of the three men suing Spacey had also filed a claim against London’s Old Vic theatre, where Spacey served as artistic director from 2003. The theatre settled its part of the case without admitting liability, citing the costs and strain of continuous litigation. However, the claimant’s legal action against Spacey personally remains active.
Commenting on the settlement, the Old Vic released a statement:
“This settlement has been agreed without any admission of liability, having regard to the costs and impact on all parties of continuing litigation.”
Kevin Spacey’s Career Impacted by Past Allegations
Spacey’s career has been significantly affected following the emergence of sexual misconduct accusations. After receiving Academy Awards for performances in films such as American Beauty and The Usual Suspects, Spacey was removed from the Netflix series House of Cards and replaced in the film All the Money in the World following the initial allegations.
In the United States, a civil lawsuit against Spacey ended in dismissal by a jury in 2022. Subsequently, the actor faced a criminal trial in London in 2023, where he was charged with sexually assaulting four men but was found not guilty on all nine counts.
Potential Consequences and Next Steps for the Legal Proceedings
The High Court’s decision on including the seven additional allegations will shape the scope of the November civil trial, which could further examine Kevin Spacey sexual assault allegations over a longer timeframe. This development underscores the ongoing legal challenges faced by Spacey and highlights the growing complexity of such longstanding cases.
The resolution of this lawsuit may influence how historic allegations against high-profile figures are treated in civil courts and could lead to further testimonies if the judge permits the extended evidence. The case also reflects broader societal concerns about accountability and justice for alleged victims across decades.
