At a recent premiere for his film The Bride!, Christian Bale shared his thoughts on the upcoming adaptation of American Psycho, originally released in 2000. When questioned about potential actors to take on his former role, Bale encouraged new talent by stating,
“Whoever wants to give it a shot, give it a pop!”
He reflected on his experience working with director Mary Harron and described the challenge of stepping into this character as a “bold choice,” applauding anyone willing to take it on as “brave.”
About the American Psycho Role and Upcoming Adaptation
Christian Bale famously portrayed Patrick Bateman, an investment banking executive who hides a sinister double life as a serial killer, in the 2000 film. The forthcoming project is a fresh adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ 1991 novel, rather than a direct remake of Bale’s version. Luca Guadagnino, the director behind the new film, expressed his dedication to capturing the essence of Ellis’ novel, saying,
“We are really working hard to bring to the screen a new adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ American Psycho, a book that I deeply love and that is something that influenced me so much.”
The cast for this new rendition has yet to be revealed. Author Bret Easton Ellis recently mentioned that multiple actors have declined the opportunity to portray Bateman, fearing the pressure to meet high expectations associated with the role.
Christian Bale’s Current Projects and Future Endeavors
Aside from reflecting on American Psycho, Bale is engaged in a biographical film titled Madden, directed by David O. Russell. He takes on the role of Al Davis, with co-star Nicolas Cage also featured prominently. The release date for Madden is scheduled for November 26 this year, marking another significant milestone in Bale’s diverse acting career.
