The Disney Cruise Line officially launched its newest and largest ship, the Disney Adventure, on March 4 in Singapore, marking a significant step in expanding the company’s presence in Asia. The event took place aboard the ship in the Walt Disney Theatre and highlighted the arrival of Disney Cruise Line’s first vessel based in Southeast Asia, with its inaugural voyage set for March 10.
Robert Downey Jr., serving as the ship’s godparent, made a special appearance during the ceremony to give the traditional blessing for the vessel, lending star power to the momentous occasion.
Robert Downey Jr. Praises the Disney Adventure’s Creation
During the ceremony, Downey Jr. expressed his admiration for the ship and the Disney Imagineering team behind it. He described the name “Adventure” as an apt reflection of the creative spirit invested in the ship’s design.
“I’ve had the privilege of getting to know the team at Walt Disney Imagineering, and I can tell you Adventure is the perfect name for what they’ve created,”
Downey Jr. said.
“Being the godparent of this majestic vessel is an honor.”
Disney Leadership Celebrates a New Chapter for the Cruise Line in Asia
Top executives from Disney were present to commemorate the milestone, including Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences and the incoming Walt Disney Company CEO, alongside Joe Schott, President of Disney Signature Experiences.
“The Walt Disney Company has always been built on the power of storytelling and innovation, and Disney Cruise Line brings those values to life in extraordinary ways,”
D’Amaro stated.
“As our first ship to homeport in Asia, the Disney Adventure represents a new chapter for Disney Cruise Line and will introduce Disney to audiences who may be experiencing our magic for the very first time.”
Celebration Features Live Performances of Disney Classics
The festive occasion included captivating performances by a 23-piece orchestra alongside Filipino vocalist and Hollywood Performing Arts Hall of Fame inductee Jed Madela and international artist Dami Im, known for representing Australia in the Eurovision Song Contest. Their performances combined classic Disney, Pixar, and Marvel songs while large video screens immersed the audience in dynamic visual effects throughout the Walt Disney Theatre.

The Largest Disney Cruise Ship with Innovative Themed Areas
The Disney Adventure is Disney Cruise Line’s largest ship, boasting 20 decks and a guest capacity of up to 6,700, making it substantially larger than the existing Wish-class vessels. Weighing approximately 208,000 gross tons, the ship is composed of seven distinctive themed zones, much like lands in Disney’s theme parks, each designed to provide unique entertainment, dining, and activities inspired by Disney, Pixar, and Marvel stories.
Notably, one of the highlights is Marvel Landing, an adventure zone on the top deck that includes Disney Cruise Line’s first roller coaster at sea, the Ironcycle Test Run, stretching over 820 feet.
Other themed areas include Disney Imagination Garden, San Fransokyo Street inspired by Big Hero 6, Toy Story Place, Discovery Reef, Wayfinder Bay based on Moana, and Town Square, which houses the main theater and entertainment venues.
New Entertainment and Dining Experiences Unveiled
The cruise offers fresh entertainment options, including the Broadway-style production “Remember,” which tells the story of WALL-E and EVE, along with an outdoor show titled “Moana: Call of the Sea.” Dining aboard the Disney Adventure follows Disney Cruise Line’s signature rotational dining system, where guests and their service teams move between three different themed restaurants out of six main dining venues available during their voyage.
Strategic Homeporting in Singapore and Future Plans
The Disney Adventure will be homeported in Singapore for a minimum of five years as part of an ongoing partnership with the Singapore Tourism Board, initially announced in 2023. Its itineraries will primarily consist of three- and four-night cruises without stops at other ports, positioning the ship itself as the principal destination for passengers.
This ship marks the eighth addition to Disney Cruise Line’s fleet and is part of an expansive growth strategy, with five more ships expected to join by 2031.
