Actor Wyatt Russell is set to return in the upcoming second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and he is also involved in a new Monsterverse spinoff produced by Monarch executive producer Joby Harold. Russell recently shared details about the spinoff’s unique direction and his anticipation for the project in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
Excitement Builds for the New Monsterverse Series
Production on the Monsterverse spinoff is slated to begin in the summer of 2026. Russell described the screenplay as “very good” and expressed his enthusiasm, stating,
“I’m more excited to start working on this than I have been about anything in a long time.”
He emphasized that this series will offer a fresh and unexpected experience for viewers, saying,
“By early on in the show, people are going to be like, ‘This is wild. This is so different from what I thought I was going to be watching — in the best way.”
Joby Harold’s Vision Shapes the Spinoff
Joby Harold will serve as both writer and showrunner for the spinoff, bringing his creative vision to the project. According to Russell, Harold and the team are deeply inspired by the concept, driving their passion to create something new within the Monsterverse.
Expanding the Monsterverse Franchise
Russell also addressed the broader expansion of the Monsterverse through multiple spinoffs. He highlighted the excitement this growth brings not only to the creative team but also to the audience. He explained,
“It’s exciting to expand the Monsterverse, and hopefully, for the next 10 or 15 years or however long, people can get excited about this new wave of storytelling that will come out of the Monsterverse. It focuses on the humans, but the monsters are still a big part of it, so it’s really fun to be able to help create that.”
This upcoming spinoff marks a significant evolution for the Monsterverse, promising fresh narratives that integrate human stories with the franchise’s iconic monsters. As production approaches, fans can look forward to a series that challenges expectations and deepens the Monsterverse universe.
