Elijah Wood, known for his role in Lord of the Rings, shared some rare thoughts on his experiences as a father while discussing his new film, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. The 45-year-old actor, who lives with his wife Mette-Marie Kongsved and their two young children—a 6-year-old son and a 4-year-old daughter—is carefully navigating which movies to introduce to his kids.
Introducing Movies to His Children: A Careful Approach
Speaking with The Times, Elijah explained that his children have moved beyond their toddler years and are now at an age he describes as “kid-dom.”
“We’re well out of toddlerville and they’ve entered kid-dom,”
Elijah told The Times. “It’s incredible.”
Despite his own fame in fantasy films, Elijah has been cautious about exposing his kids to his iconic movies. He has shared simpler classics like The Wizard of Oz but has yet to screen the Lord of the Rings series for them.
“They have not [seen them],”
he admitted.
“But only because I genuinely don’t think they’re old enough. I feel like it might be appropriate when they are 8.”
Additionally, Elijah is hesitant to show his children the 1995 movie Jumanji, starring Robin Williams, due to its intensity.
“[It’s] way scarier and more f–ked up than I remember,”
Elijah noted.
Anticipation Around Upcoming Film Release
Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is scheduled for release on March 20. Elijah’s shares about his family life reveal his cautious, sometimes doubtful approach to fatherhood, highlighting the challenges of balancing his film career with raising children in a world full of varied entertainment content. His careful curation of what his kids watch reflects his concern about age-appropriateness and the impact of frightening themes on young minds.
