Steve Carell Reveals How Rooster Feels Like The Office Again

Steve Carell has shared that working on the new HBO comedy Rooster rekindled fond memories of his time on The Office. The actor, best known for portraying Michael Scott on the NBC hit, explained that the set environment for Rooster closely resembles the collaborative spirit he experienced before.

Cast Bonding and Ensemble Spirit Remind Carell of Past Experience

Speaking at a press conference in New York before the show’s premiere, Carell described the production as having “a true ensemble” feel. He noted the unpredictability of the cast’s dynamics early on but emphasized the overall kindness and generosity that shaped the working relationships.

“It just felt like a true ensemble,”

Carell said.

He elaborated,

“You don’t know what the energy’s going to be like, you don’t know what each of them are going to be like as people. But there was just such a pervasive kindness and generosity. And, honestly, it reminds me of my experience on The Office in terms of that.”

Carell reminisced about the collective effort involved in The Office, highlighting how everyone from cast to crew and writers shared a commitment to making the show successful:

“We were an ensemble and we shared — and that includes cast, crew, writers, producers, everybody. It was like, we just wanted it to be good.”

Carell’s Immediate Connection with Co-Star Carly Clive

On a personal note, Carell spoke warmly of his connection with Carly Clive, who plays his daughter on Rooster. He recounted how their rapport was apparent from their first meeting during the table read.

“When Charly and I first met, I mean, it was our first table read — it was the first time that we met in person. And I just knew instantly — well, I knew instantly on Zoom — that she was the one to play my daughter,”

he explained.

He further added,

“All of the actors turned out to be the same way,”

suggesting a strong chemistry across the cast that contributed to the show’s dynamic.
