Arnold Schwarzenegger has revealed plans to revisit several of his iconic 1980s action roles, hinting at a significant Arnold Schwarzenegger 80s comeback. Speaking at the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio, the 78-year-old actor shared that multiple projects from his early career are under consideration for revival.
Discussions include a possible return to the Predator franchise, where Schwarzenegger has been in talks with director Dan Trachtenberg, known for the 2022 film Prey and the upcoming Predator: Badlands. The actor expressed enthusiasm about potentially reprising his role as Dutch from the original 1987 Predator movie.
Potential Roles in Predator and Commando Sequels
Schwarzenegger detailed conversations involving a new Predator installment. He said,
“They did a remake of Predator… not a remake but an additional Predator, and that latest director, he’s been doing a great job with that. And so now he wants me to be in the next Predator,”
highlighting Trachtenberg’s involvement.
In addition to Predator, Fox Studio has approached Schwarzenegger with offers to appear in sequels to other classic action films. He stated,
“Fox Studio has kind of rediscovered Arnold. They come to me, and they say, ‘We want you to do Predator, we just got the script for you to do Commando 2,’”
referring to a continuation of his 1985 hit Commando.
Sequel to Conan the Barbarian in Development
A new Conan the Barbarian project is also underway, with the studio hiring filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie, known for directing several Tom Cruise movies, to write and direct. Schwarzenegger explained,
“They just hired a writer-director who did Tom Cruise’s last four movies, a fantastic writer-director. They hired him to write and direct King Conan,”
signaling a fresh chapter following the original 1982 film and its 1984 sequel.
The actor noted that these new installments will take his current age into account. He said,
“I’m still going to kick some ass, but it will be kind of a bit different,”
indicating a more mature take on his famed characters.

Most recently, Schwarzenegger appeared in the second season of the Netflix series FUBAR and starred in the 2019 film Terminator: Dark Fate. These upcoming projects could mark a remarkable resurgence in his career, reigniting fan interest in his legendary ’80s roles while adapting them for contemporary audiences.
