Arnold Schwarzenegger has indicated that studios are considering new projects involving his famous characters from the Predator and Commando franchises. These developments suggest that the actor may reprise roles that helped define his action star career in the coming years.
Discussions Surrounding Predator and Commando Sequels
Speaking at the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio, Schwarzenegger revealed that conversations with filmmakers and studios about upcoming films are in progress. Dan Trachtenberg, who directed the latest Predator installment, is reportedly developing further stories within that universe and has expressed interest in Schwarzenegger’s return.
Reflecting on these talks, Schwarzenegger shared,
“They did an additional Predator, and the director (Dan Trachtenberg) has been doing a great job of that. Now, he wants me to be in the next Predator. We’ve talked about it.”
This signals a possibility for the return of Dutch, Schwarzenegger’s character from the original Predator film that became a defining moment in his career.
Additionally, Schwarzenegger disclosed that Fox Studios approached him with a script for a sequel to Commando, the 1985 action movie in which he played John Matrix. He explained,
“As a matter of fact, FOX Studios has kind of rediscovered ‘Arnold.’ They’ve come to me and said, ‘We want you to do Predator, we just got a script for you to do Commando 2,’”
confirming the ongoing interest in reviving his hits from the 1980s.
Legacy of Schwarzenegger’s Classic Action Roles
Schwarzenegger’s portrayal of Dutch in Predator and John Matrix in Commando remains central to his legacy as an action star. Dutch is remembered for leading an elite team against alien attackers in the 1987 film, while John Matrix is iconic for launching a solo mission to save his kidnapped daughter in 1985’s Commando. Although no official announcements about these sequels have been made, Schwarzenegger’s remarks indicate that discussions with studios continue and that the return of these characters could soon become a reality.
