Donald Glover Joins Super Mario Galaxy Movie as Yoshi

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has expanded its voice cast with Donald Glover taking on the role of Yoshi, the iconic green dinosaur. This announcement was made during a Nintendo Direct livestream on Monday, alongside new cast reveals and a trailer for the animated sequel.

Additional Cast Members and Returning Stars

Alongside Glover, Luis Guzman will voice Wart, and Issa Rae has been cast as Honey Queen. Chris Pratt reprises his role as Mario as the story continues in this follow-up to the 2023 Super Mario Bros. Movie. Returning cast includes Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. The sequel also introduces Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr. and Brie Larson as Princess Rosalina, a character originating from the 2007 video game Super Mario Galaxy.

Plot Overview and New Adventures in Space

After their victory over Bowser in the previous film, Mario, Luigi, and Peach embark on a new mission where they confront the Koopa King and his son once again. This journey transports them through outer space to various unique planets, including a fiery volcano world, an underwater realm, and a neon-lit techno land filled with gravity-defying challenges. In the new trailer, the heroes join forces with Rosalina and Yoshi, who remains mostly silent except for his trademark vocalization. New adversaries like Wart and Honey Queen also make appearances, alongside fan-favorite Birdo.

Directors and Release Information

The film is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, with Universal, Illumination, and Nintendo collaborating on the production. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is set for release in theaters on April 1.
