Walt Disney Studios has confirmed Kathryn Hahn as the new Mother Gothel in their live-action adaptation of the animated musical Tangled. The casting announcement surfaced on Tuesday through a collaborative Instagram video with Hahn, highlighting her as the villain.
In the video, Hahn appeared wearing a black shirt featuring multiple images of the animated Mother Gothel character, signaling her embrace of the role. Her Instagram bio also changed to read “mother knows best,” accompanied by a mirror emoji, a nod to the character’s iconic song from the original film.
Main Cast and Crew Behind the New Film
Australian actress Teagan Croft will star as Rapunzel, the Disney Princess at the heart of the story, alongside Milo Manheim, known for Disney Channel’s Zombies franchise, who will portray Flynn Rider. Michael Gracey, director of The Greatest Showman, is leading the project, with the screenplay by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, writer and director of Do Revenge. Kristin Burr, known for producing Cruella and Freaky Friday, is attached as producer.
These actors will follow in the footsteps of Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, the original voices of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider in the 2010 animated film. Donna Murphy originally voiced Mother Gothel.
