Known for his Hollywood blockbusters with structurally complex storytelling, he is considered a leading filmmaker of the 21st century. Christopher Edward Nolan was born on 30 July 1970 in Westminster, London. His father, Brendan James Nolan, was a British advertising executive of Irish descent, while his mother, Christina Jensen, is a former American flight attendant from Evanston, Illinois. He has two brothers, Matthew and Jonathan, the latter also a filmmaker. Raised Catholic in Highgate, the family spent summers in Evanston, and Nolan also lived in Chicago during his youth. He holds both UK and US citizenship. Nolan developed an interest in filmmaking at a young age, influenced by the works of Sir Ridley Scott and iconic science fiction films like 2001: A Space Odyssey and Star Wars. He began making films at the age of seven, using his father’s Super 8 camera to create short films with his action figures.
Path to Hollywood
