Damon Laurence Lindelof (born April 24, 1973) is an American screenwriter, comic book writer, and producer. Among his accolades, he has received three Primetime Emmy Awards from twelve nominations. Lindelof is best known as the creator and showrunner of numerous critically acclaimed television series, such as the ABC science fiction drama series Lost (2004–2010), the HBO supernatural drama series The Leftovers (2014–2017), the HBO superhero limited series Watchmen (2019), and the Peacock science fiction limited series Mrs. Davis (2023).
Early Life and Background
Damon Lindelof was born in Englewood, New Jersey, to Susan Klausner, a teacher, and David Herbert Lindelof, a bank manager. His mother is Ashkenazi Jewish, with family roots in Białystok, Poland, while his father’s ancestry includes Swedish, Norwegian, Spanish, and German heritage. Lindelof celebrated his Bar Mitzvah in Teaneck, New Jersey, where he attended synagogue. He attended Teaneck High School, which he credits for broadening his horizons as a writer due to its diverse student body.
