Joshua Lucas Easy Dent Maurer was born in Little Rock, Arkansas. He is the son of Michele LeFevre, a nurse midwife, and Don Maurer, an emergency room doctor. Growing up, Lucas traveled extensively with his family throughout the South due to his parents’ activism. By the age of 13, he had lived in 30 different locations, including the Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island in South Carolina. Eventually, the family settled in Gig Harbor, Washington, where he graduated from Gig Harbor High School in 1989, participating in high school plays that sparked his interest in acting.

After graduating high school, Lucas moved to Hollywood to pursue acting. He began his career with guest appearances on several television sitcoms, including True Colors and Parker Lewis Can’t Lose.
