He has an older sister, Nancy, who worked for the Red Cross.
Nolte attended Kingsley Elementary School in Waterloo, Iowa, and later studied at Westside High School in Omaha, where he was the kicker on the football team. He also attended Benson High School but was expelled for drinking before practice.
