Mark Sinclair Vincent (born July 18, 1967), known professionally as Vin Diesel, is an American actor and filmmaker. Mark Sinclair Vincent was born on July 18, 1967, in Alameda County, California. He later moved to New York City with his fraternal twin brother, Paul. Diesel was raised by his mother, Delora Sherleen Vincent, an astrologer, and his adoptive father, Irving H. Vincent, an acting instructor and theater manager. Diesel has stated that he is of ambiguous ethnicity and has never met his biological father. His mother has Scottish roots, and he has expressed that he has connections to many different cultures. Diesel made his stage debut at age seven in the children’s play Dinosaur Door, produced at Theater for the New City in New York’s Greenwich Village. His involvement in the play came about when he and some friends broke into the theater with the intent to vandalize it. Instead of calling the police, the theater’s artistic director offered them roles in the upcoming show. Diesel remained involved with the theater throughout his adolescence and later attended Hunter College, where his studies in creative writing led him to begin screenwriting.

Diesel’s first film role was as an uncredited extra in the drama film Awakenings in 1990.
