Barry Jenkins is an Academy Award-winning American filmmaker, screenwriter, and producer recognized for emotionally precise dramas centered on Black identity, family, and intimacy. Jenkins won the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay for Moonlight (2016), which also received a Golden Globe for Best Picture in a Drama. His subsequent feature, If Beale Street Could Talk (2018), earned Regina King an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Jenkins created and directed the Amazon limited series The Underground Railroad (2021), winning a Peabody Award and earning a Primetime Emmy nomination. Named to the Time 100 in 2017, his body of work also includes Medicine for Melancholy, Dear White People, Mufasa: The Lion King, and The Fire Inside.
