Lindsay Lohan has expressed her struggles with being typecast throughout her career, particularly as she transitioned from child star to adult actress. Speaking with The Times U.K., Lohan revealed her frustration with the limited roles offered to her, despite her proven ability to handle more nuanced characters.
“Yeah, I do [think I was pigeonholed],”
she said.
“I was so thrilled to work on ‘A Prairie Home Companion’ and yet even today I have to fight for stuff that is like that, which is frustrating. Because, well, you know me as this — but you also know I can do that. So let me! Give me the chance. I have to break that cycle and open doors to something else, leaving people no choice. And in due time, if Martin Scorsese reaches out, I’m not going to say no.”

Early Career and Rise to Fame
Lohan began her acting career as a child, gaining initial recognition with her role in the 1998 film The Parent Trap. She quickly became a familiar face in Hollywood through several popular movies in the early 2000s, such as Mean Girls, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, and Herbie: Fully Loaded. These roles cemented her status as a household name.
Hiatus from Acting to Reclaim Personal Life
Despite her early success, Lohan took a break from the industry during the late 2000s. She explained that she needed time to rediscover her passion for acting while seeking a more private and fulfilling life outside of the public eye.
“I wanted to take a minute,”
Lohan said.
“I was losing that feeling of excitement about doing a film, and I wanted to live my own life for a bit, figure out how to have a more private life, a real life. I wanted to wait to get that itch again.”

Return to Film and Upcoming Projects
Lohan has recently returned to the big screen and is set to star alongside Jamie Lee Curtis in Freakier Friday, a sequel to their 2003 hit comedy Freaky Friday. This new installment presents a multigenerational storyline, with Lohan portraying a mother for the first time. The film is scheduled for release in theaters on August 8.

In addition to this, Lohan is expanding her creative scope by taking on an executive producer role in the Hulu thriller Count My Lies, marking her first leading role in a television series. The show, adapted from a novel, follows a cunning nanny who unveils hidden truths about the family she works for.
Lohan’s Desire for Complex, Story-Driven Roles
Looking forward, Lohan expressed her hope to engage in projects with richer storytelling, reminiscent of classic films.
“I miss films that are stories, like ‘All About Eve’ or ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s,’”
she said.
“There are not many major movies I want to go and see that are like that — there’s a gap and I’m craving to do work like that.”
