Christopher Nolan Wraps Epic Odyssey Film Starring Matt Damon; Release Set for July 2026

Christopher Nolan has finished filming his adaptation of the ancient epic poem, The Odyssey, starring Matt Damon as the King of Ithaca. The production announcement came from the film’s supervising art director, Samantha Englender, confirming the completion of this ambitious project.

Star-Studded Cast and Technical Team Join Forces

The Odyssey features Matt Damon in the lead role, with Tom Holland portraying Telemachus, Odysseus’s son. The cast also includes Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Mia Goth, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Rafi Gavron, and Shiloh Fernandez. Nolan is producing alongside his wife Emma Thomas under their Syncopy banner. Cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema, who previously worked with Nolan on Interstellar, Dunkirk, Tenet, and Oppenheimer, returned for this film. Composer Ludwig Goransson, known for his work on Tenet and Oppenheimer, is also part of the creative team.

Filming began in February and took place across numerous locations including Italy, Morocco, Malta, Greece, Iceland, Scotland, Western Sahara, and Los Angeles. The film was captured using 70 mm IMAX cameras to deliver a grand visual experience. With a production budget estimated at $250 million, The Odyssey ranks among Christopher Nolan’s most expensive directorial efforts.

The Odyssey is set for a worldwide theatrical release on July 17, 2026, distributed by Universal Pictures.
