Quentin Tarantino has revealed that his latest project, a West End play, is fully written and ready to move forward. The acclaimed director, known for films like Pulp Fiction and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, shared details during a recent podcast, confirming plans for the play’s development and an early 2027 premiere in London.
Tarantino’s Upcoming Theatre Project Is Set for London
The two-time Academy Award winner disclosed on The Church of Tarantino podcast that the play is his next major focus. He explained,
“all written. It is absolutely the next thing I’m going to do. We’ll start the ball rolling on it in January… It’s probably going to take up a year and a half to two years of my life.”
The timeline suggests that, although preparation begins soon, audiences may wait a year before seeing it performed live.
Regarding the location, Tarantino expressed a clear preference for London over Broadway. He emphasized his commitment to spending time with his family before relocating, saying,
“I’m having a great time with my kids and my family and everything, so let me just hang out with my family for the whole rest of the year and then I’ll more than likely move to England and bring my family with me and start working on the play.”
This confirms that the production will most likely premiere in the West End theatre district.
Comedy Likely to Be the Play’s Genre
While details about the new play’s plot and style remain scarce, there is strong indication that it will be comedic. Tarantino had previously told Bill Maher last year that he was interested in writing for the theatre, particularly a comedy. He explained how comedy in the theatre creates a unique shared experience between the audience and performers, stating,
“I’m leaning more towards writing, or trying for a while, theatre”
and
“In a comedy play, the audience is a character in the room… when that works, that’s an evening out… which is hard to capture on film.”
This desire to explore comedy on stage suggests a new creative direction for Tarantino, one that engages the audience dynamically in ways distinct from his cinematic work.

Potential Adaptation and Past Stage Ambitions
The director also indicated he might adapt the play into a film if it achieves popularity, stating,
“If it’s a popular play, then I’ll probably make a movie.”
This means the new work could eventually reach wider audiences beyond the theatre.
This is not Tarantino’s first interest in theatre production. In 2016, he announced plans to develop his movie The Hateful Eight into a stage play, saying,
“I’ve thought it out completely I’m just waiting for this [2016 awards] season to be over so I can write it.”
Although that project did not advance, his continued focus on theatrical writing shows this is a longstanding ambition.
Current Projects and Anticipated Impact
Alongside his theatre plans, Tarantino remains active with other projects, including scripting a sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood to be directed by David Fincher. His move into London’s West End for an original comedy would be a prominent development for both the director and the theatre scene.
The announcement of a Quentin Tarantino West End play adds significant excitement to upcoming theatrical offerings, promising a fresh creative venture from one of cinema’s most influential voices. Theatre-goers and fans alike can look forward to a world premiere likely in early 2027, with the possibility of further adaptations extending the play’s reach.
