Jordan Peele’s Next Film Delayed as Universal Drops 2026 Release Plan

Fans anticipating Jordan Peele’s next film as a writer-director will face a delay, as Universal has removed the project from its theatrical lineup, sources familiar with the matter confirmed. This marks a shift in plans for the fourth directorial effort from Peele, renowned for his distinct horror-thriller style.

Ongoing Development of Peele’s Fourth Film

Despite the setback, Peele continues to develop his follow-up to the 2022 movie Nope. As with his previous films, the new project is expected to be a horror thriller, although specific plot details remain confidential. Universal has not offered any comments regarding the change in schedule.

Changes in Release Timing and Studio Priorities

The project was originally slated for a December 2024 release but was later postponed to October 2026. However, Universal’s specialty division, Focus Features, took over that release window for Robert Eggersfilm Nosferatu, which achieved considerable success by grossing $181.7 million globally, ranking it among Focus Features’ highest-grossing titles.

Peele’s Current Projects and Producing Roles

While advancing his film behind the scenes, Peele remains active as a producer through his Monkeypaw Productions. Recently, he facilitated the transition of Dev Patel’s directorial debut Monkey Man from Netflix to Universal. Additionally, he is involved in Justin Tipping’s upcoming sports horror movie HIM, featuring Marlon Wayans and Tyriq Withers. The story centers on an aging football star mentoring a rookie, leading to dark supernatural consequences.

Upcoming Film HIM to Release This September

The film HIM is scheduled to premiere in theaters on September 19. The adjustment to Peele’s next film release was initially reported by Variety, signaling significant shifts in Universal’s release strategy while Peele focuses on producing and developing future projects.
