James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios and the writer-director of the recent Superman film, has officially confirmed that the sequel will be released in theaters in July 2027. The announcement signals that fans will not have to wait long for the next installment in the Superman franchise.
Gunn revealed the release date on social media alongside an illustration by Jim Lee featuring Lex Luthor in his iconic purple and green battle suit, as well as David Corenswet’s Superman. The caption accompanying the image read,

This strongly indicates the sequel’s official title will be Superman: Man of Tomorrow.
The Meaning Behind the Sequel’s Title
The title Man of Tomorrow is one of Superman’s well-known nicknames, though it is less prominent than The Man of Steel, which served as the title of Zack Snyder’s first Superman movie starring Henry Cavill. The name has a long-standing history in DC Comics, with a comic series called Superman: The Man of Tomorrow launching in 1995 and running for 16 issues.
