Tom Holland Calls Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey Best Script Ever

Tom Holland, who stars as Telemachus in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film The Odyssey, described the screenplay as the best he has ever encountered, surpassing even the Marvel projects in which he has appeared. Known widely for his role as Peter Parker / Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Holland has featured in major blockbusters like Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.

In a recent interview with Agence France-Presse, Holland shared his admiration for Nolan’s script, stating,

The script is the best script I’ve ever read,

highlighting his enthusiasm for this new role. This follow-up to Nolan’s acclaimed Oppenheimer finished production about a month ago, while Holland has now begun work on Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Collaborative Experience with Christopher Nolan on Set

Holland described Nolan as a collaborative director, noting that although Nolan has a clear vision, the set remains a space for creative exchange. The actor explained,

He [Nolan] knows what he wants… but it is not an environment where you can’t pitch ideas or build characters in certain ways.

This atmosphere allowed Holland to engage actively with his character and the story throughout filming.

The Odyssey’s Story and Ensemble Cast

The film adapts Homer’s ancient Greek epic poem, following Odysseus as he embarks on a treacherous journey home to Ithaca after the Trojan War. Along the way, he confronts legendary creatures including the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens, and the witch-goddess Circe. Holland’s role as Telemachus, Odysseus’s son, places him at the heart of this narrative.

The star-studded cast includes Matt Damon as Odysseus, Charlize Theron as Circe, and Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, and Robert Pattinson in other key roles, promising a dynamic ensemble performance.

Production Timeline and Release Details

Announced by Universal Pictures last December, production on The Odyssey began in February 2025, following the global success of Nolan’s Oppenheimer. The movie is scheduled for release in the United States on July 17, 2026, with screenings planned in IMAX, IMAX 70 mm film, and various other premium formats.

The anticipation around the film is heightened by the involvement of Nolan and the talented cast, alongside Holland’s high praise for the script, suggesting it will be a compelling adaptation of the timeless epic.
