Andrew Garfield Drops Bombshell on Avengers Return Rumors

Andrew Garfield has addressed circulating rumors regarding his participation in the upcoming Marvel movie Avengers: Doomsday, firmly denying any involvement. Known for his role in The Amazing Spider-Man, Garfield responded decisively to questions about reprising his Spider-Man character alongside Tobey Maguire in the multiverse-centered film.

In a recent interview with GQ, Garfield was blunt when asked if he and Maguire would appear together again as alternate Spider-Men, stating, No, unequivocally f—– no. This puts to rest persistent fan speculation following their unexpected reunions in Spider-Man: No Way Home, a film that reignited interest in previous Spider-Man interpretations after earning $1.9 billion globally. Although Avengers: Doomsday will feature the return of several Marvel stars, including Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, Garfield confirmed he will not be part of this ensemble.

Context on Garfield’s Previous Role and Past Comments

Andrew Garfield first portrayed Peter Parker in Sony Pictures’ 2012 The Amazing Spider-Man and its 2014 sequel. Despite his absence in earlier Marvel films, he surprised many by reappearing in 2021’s No Way Home alongside Maguire and Tom Holland. Garfield described his sudden exit from the franchise as leaving him dangling, and called his return in No Way Home the most joyful thing ever.

While he has ruled out appearing in Avengers: Doomsday, Garfield has expressed openness in prior interviews to returning as Spider-Man if the project offered something additive to the culture and was unique and exciting. However, due to his history of denying roles only to take them later, many fans remain skeptical. Reflecting on this, he said about Spider-Man: Brand New Day,

I’m gonna disappoint you. Yeah, no. But I know no one’s gonna trust anything I say from now on.

Upcoming Marvel Films and Their Impact on the Franchise

Directed by the Russo brothers, Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027. These films mark the Russo siblings’ return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers: Endgame, promising significant developments in the ongoing multiverse storyline. Despite the excitement surrounding these new installments, Garfield’s departure signifies a clear boundary in the evolving Spider-Man narrative within the wider Avengers saga.
