Mayor of Kingstown Star Moves to New Taylor Sheridan Show

Lane Garrison, known for his role in Mayor of Kingstown, will appear in the fourth season of Tulsa King after completing his work on the Paramount+ drama. The actor discussed his transition between the two projects, noting how the experience on Mayor of Kingstown paved the way for his involvement in another Taylor Sheridan show. This Taylor Sheridan show transition marks a significant move for Garrison’s career.

Garrison shared with TV Insider that the producers had a mix of news about his character in Mayor of Kingstown: he learned that his character, Carney, would be killed off but that he would be cast in Tulsa King.

“They’re like, ‘We’ve got good news and bad news. The bad news is we’re killing you. The good news is we’re gonna find something for you in Tulsa King,’”

Garrison said. Carney’s death takes place early in Mayor of Kingstown Season 4, during the second episode titled Promises to Keep. A Colombian man, linked to a previous attempt on the character Bunny’s life, murders Carney shortly after Carney cares for his father at home.

This loss adds another layer of grief for Mike McLusky, played by Jeremy Renner, within the prison environment. Garrison described filming Carney’s final sequence as emotional, revealing that crew members were visibly moved by the scene. Initially, he had believed Carney’s narrative would take a different route following Kareem’s death in the series. Garrison expected his character to rise to a leadership role, saying,

“In my mind, I thought he was going to become the warden, and that was going to be a whole process through corruption. Obviously, that’s not how it played out,”

but the storyline shifted unexpectedly.

Reflecting on a Career Connected to Prison Dramas and Future Prospects

Looking back, Garrison emphasized the significance of returning to a prison-centered role, referencing his earlier experience on Prison Break. His new character in Mayor of Kingstown allowed him to complete a narrative arc with more closure.

“To come full circle now to play a guard on the other side and die properly, like a gentleman, and say my goodbyes—that was something I took away more than anything,”

he explained. As Garrison prepares for his role in Tulsa King, he also expressed excitement about working again with fellow Mayor of Kingstown cast member Michael Beach and humorously stated,

“If I die, I’m not doing it.”

This transition not only highlights Lane Garrison’s versatility but also underscores Taylor Sheridan’s continued confidence in his talent. Fans of Mayor of Kingstown can anticipate seeing Garrison bring new energy to Tulsa King, further intertwining the narratives within Sheridan’s television universe. The move is expected to enrich Tulsa King’s storyline while giving Garrison a fresh platform to showcase his skills.
