The highly anticipated James Cameron concert film featuring Billie Eilish, Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour, has had its release date pushed from March 20 to May 8. The announcement came directly from Cameron, who is co-directing the project alongside Eilish, explaining that the delay will provide additional time to enhance the film’s 3D effects.
Cameron shared on Instagram images of his team working on the production, emphasizing the importance of refining the film’s visuals and expanding its content.
“We’re refining the cut, dialing in exciting new 3D tech, and adding special behind-the-scenes elements we know you’ll love,”
he stated, highlighting the creative improvements underway.
This film marks Eilish’s first concert documentary intended for theatrical release, following her 2021 Disney+ exclusive concert movie, Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles, directed by Robert Rodriguez. The new timing places the concert film amid the competitive summer release schedule.
By debuting in May, Hit Me Hard and Soft joins a lineup that includes Warner Bros./New Line’s Mortal Kombat II, Amazon MGM’s The Sheep Detectives, 20th Century’s The Devil Wears Prada 2, and Disney/Lucasfilm’s The Mandalorian and Grogu. Cameron’s Lightstorm Earth is producing in partnership with Darkroom Records and Interscope Films, integrating multiple stakeholders into this ambitious project.
The delay reflects a cautious optimism from the creators, aiming to deliver a concert film with enhanced technical quality and added material that will appeal to Billie Eilish fans and moviegoers alike. This careful preparation anticipates a strong presence during a key season for blockbuster releases.
