Robert Eggers Wraps Filming on Dark New Monster Movie Werwulf

Robert Eggers’ latest film, Werwulf, has finished shooting after 77 days in England, marking a key milestone for the highly anticipated project. The monster movie, starring Ralph Ineson along with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, and Willem Dafoe, is scheduled for release on December 25 through Focus Features. The news was confirmed by director of photography Jarin Blaschke on Facebook, with Ineson sharing a photo from the wrap party on Twitter.

A Dark Tale Set in 13th-Century England

Eggers, known for The Witch and Nosferatu, co-wrote Werwulf’s script with Icelandic poet and screenwriter Sjón, who also collaborated on The Northman. The film explores a chilling narrative in 13th-century England, where a mysterious beast roams the fog-covered countryside, turning local legends into horrifying reality. Eggers has described Werwulf as

“the darkest thing [he’s] ever written.”

This project reunites Willem Dafoe with Eggers, reminiscent of their previous work on Nosferatu.

Additional Projects in Development for Eggers

Alongside Werwulf, Eggers is reportedly directing a new adaptation of A Christmas Carol for Warner Bros., with Willem Dafoe likely to play Ebenezer Scrooge. He is also said to be working on a sequel to the 1986 cult classic Labyrinth, which originally featured David Bowie as the Goblin King. These projects highlight Eggers’ growing slate of films across different genres.

Post-Production and Future Expectations

With principal photography now complete, Werwulf enters an extensive post-production phase that spans roughly eleven months. The time will be crucial for crafting the film’s atmospheric and terrifying elements. Fans and critics alike eagerly await further updates as the film moves closer to its theatrical debut, adding anticipation to the year’s lineup of horror cinema.
