Actress Sydney Sweeney is under scrutiny for a recent stunt in which she climbed the Hollywood sign and attached dozens of bras to it, potentially facing charges over the unauthorized action. The incident, which took place in Los Angeles, drew attention for its bold promotion of Sweeney’s new lingerie line, Syrn.
Investigation by Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Underway
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is currently investigating the stunt and may file a police report citing trespassing or vandalism charges. Although a permit for filming near the Hollywood sign was obtained through FilmLA, permission to climb or physically interact with the landmark was not granted. This distinction forms the basis of possible legal action against Sweeney and her production team.
Hollywood Chamber of Commerce CEO Steve Nissen issued a statement regarding the incident, clarifying the organization’s role in managing access to the landmark:
“The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce owns the intellectual property rights to the image of the Hollywood Sign, so that anyone intending to use and/or access the Hollywood Sign for commercial purposes must obtain a license or permission from the Hollywood Chamber to do so,”
Steve Nissen said, adding that the chamber
“did not grant a license or permission of any kind to the production involving Sydney Sweeney as reported by TMZ, nor did anyone seek a license or permission from the chamber for that production.”
Details of the Stunt and Its Promotion
Video footage released on Monday and shared directly by Sydney Sweeney on her Instagram shows her and her crew driving up the mountain and climbing sections of the Hollywood sign to hang the bras. The spectacle was reportedly staged as part of marketing efforts for Syrn, Sweeney’s lingerie brand.
The stunt has raised considerable concern among local authorities and fans alike, given the landmark’s protected status and the potential impact of such unauthorized activities on the site’s preservation and reputation.
Potential Consequences and Next Steps
As the investigation continues, legal actions may be pursued against Sweeney, with the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce emphasizing the importance of following proper procedures for commercial use of the landmark. This event highlights ongoing tensions between public landmarks’ protection and promotional stunts by celebrities aiming for high-visibility marketing campaigns.
Further developments are expected as the police review the facts and determine if formal charges will be brought. Sydney Sweeney’s actions might lead to stricter enforcement of regulations around the Hollywood sign, emphasizing respect for this iconic symbol of the entertainment industry.
