Sigourney Weaver and Mads Mikkelsen, co-stars in the horror film Dust Bunny, shared a genuine admiration for each other throughout filming. The closeness between the veteran actress and the celebrated Danish actor became apparent during rehearsals, underscoring the chemistry behind their performances.
Director Bryan Fuller revealed on the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast that Weaver was noticeably enamored with Mikkelsen. He explained that after each rehearsal, when Mikkelsen headed to wardrobe, Weaver would fan herself and express how captivated she was by their leading man.
“Sigourney was very starstruck with Mads,”
Fuller said.
“She was so enamored with Mads, and every time we would do a rehearsal, when Mads got up to go to wardrobe, she would fan herself very ladylike and say, ‘I am very enamored with our leading man.’ It was so cute.”
Behind-the-Scenes Dynamics and Playful Exchanges
Fuller clarified that Weaver did not voice her feelings in front of Mikkelsen. Instead, once Mikkelsen left the room, Weaver would express her admiration candidly. The director also shared that Mikkelsen reciprocated her enthusiasm but in a more casual manner.
“Mads would leave,”
Fuller continued,
“And then she would say, ‘I am very enamored with our leading man,’ and fan herself. And then, if she left, Mads would express similar enthusiasm and appreciation of Sigourney, but less ladylike.”
The director also admitted that he never revealed Weaver’s secret fondness to Mikkelsen until after filming wrapped, adding a humorous note from Mikkelsen himself.
Mikkelsen, who joined the podcast via video call, joked about Fuller’s intentions.
“The director had wanted her for himself.”
Celebrated Careers of Weaver and Mikkelsen
Sigourney Weaver is a Hollywood icon with an illustrious career spanning five decades. She is renowned for starring in blockbusters like Ghostbusters, Alien, and Avatar, and has earned three Academy Award nominations for her roles in Aliens, Working Girl, and Gorillas in the Mist.

Mads Mikkelsen has been acting since the 1990s and gained wide recognition through Bryan Fuller’s TV series Hannibal, where he portrayed the infamous cannibal from Thomas Harris’s novels. His film credits include major productions such as Doctor Strange, Casino Royale, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and the critically acclaimed Another Round, which earned him a BAFTA nomination in 2021.
The Story and Inspiration Behind Dust Bunny
Dust Bunny follows the tale of a young girl who enlists a hitman, played by Mikkelsen, to confront a monster hiding under her bed. The cast also features Sophie Sloan, Sheila Atim, and David Dastmalchian. The film’s narrative blends horror and fantasy, inspired by director Bryan Fuller’s childhood favorites.
Fuller shared that the movie draws from the tone and magic of classics like Poltergeist, The Goonies, and Gremlins. Combining fantasy with coming-of-age themes, it highlights friendships and heroism amid mysterious creatures.
“Those movies always had such a fun alchemy of tones. Fantasy was always part of the recipe,”
Fuller said.
“This movie has deep ties to E.T. and what specific friendships are like, and it has deep ties to movies like Labyrinth that have fantastical monsters and, once again, young people who are at the center of the story trying to find their own paths, declaring their heroism.”
