Actor Matt Damon recently shared details about his and Ben Affleck’s unsuccessful audition for the 1989 film Dead Poets Society. Damon described their summer job in which they sold tickets and concessions for multiple daily showings of the movie.
“For three or four showings a day, it was never not completely at capacity. We tore the tickets, we sold the popcorn and the sodas and the Junior Mints and Milk Duds and told people to enjoy the show,”
he recalled. Hundreds of audience members would leave the screenings emotionally moved, often with tears and embraces for one another.
“Then, we would go in, sweep the theatre up and get ready for the next group that was coming in,”
Damon added, illustrating the continuous cycle they experienced watching the strong response to the film from the audience.
