Chris Hemsworth Reveals On-Set ‘Discomfort’ Filming Crime 101

Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo, longtime friends and co-stars in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, have teamed up for the first time in an unusual film, Crime 101. In this project, Hemsworth plays a jewel thief planning his final heist, while Ruffalo takes on the role of the detective trying to catch him. The film marks a significant departure from their usual superhero roles and explores darker themes.

Challenges Arising from Their Close Relationship

Hemsworth admitted that their close friendship created challenges during filming. He explained that working together felt like being

“a couple of naughty kids at school that need to be wrangled to be focused,”

highlighting how their longtime camaraderie sometimes made staying in character difficult.

Shifting from their familiar comedic performances to the serious tone of Crime 101 required adjustment. Hemsworth described the experience as

“a dramatic film, so it was quite an adjustment and discomfort at first,”

revealing his initial struggle with the change in genre.

Mark Ruffalo’s Perspective on Hemsworth’s Role

Mark Ruffalo expressed pride in seeing Hemsworth take on this new challenge. Calling Hemsworth “42-year-old,” Ruffalo said,

“I got to see him do something I’ve been dying to see him do that I know he can do but hadn’t had the director to help him.”

Ruffalo also noted that when he first saw Hemsworth on set, the transformation was so striking he barely recognized him.

About Crime 101 and Its Cast

Directed by Bart Layton, Crime 101 is scheduled for release in theaters on February 11. The movie also stars Monica Barbaro, Barry Keoghan, and Halle Berry, adding to its strong ensemble cast. This film offers audiences a darker and more intense narrative compared to the duo’s previous work in Marvel productions, signaling a notable shift for Hemsworth and Ruffalo alike.
