Jennifer Lawrence Names Her New Favorite Reality Show

Jennifer Lawrence has revealed her latest favorite reality series, adding to her longstanding appreciation for the genre. Speaking at a January 7 event at the 92NY Kaufmann Concert Hall, the actress shared how she unwinds with reality TV, naming The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives as her current go-to show during intense projects.

Jennifer Lawrence’s Escape Into Reality Television During Tough Roles

Jennifer Lawrence, 35, explained how she uses reality television as a way to decompress amid challenging work. During a conversation with Josh Horowitz about her new horror comedy Die My Love, she was asked if she had a “Kardashian tent” set up while filming, referring to a space she created during the making of the 2017 film Mother! to relax. Lawrence recounted,

I didn’t have a ‘Kardashian tent’ on this one,

explaining the origin of this comforting area:

My baby died in that movie, and I had never done something that dark, like to imagine feeling something that dark, so I had this tent.

She added that the tent also served a practical purpose amidst the chaos of filming, saying,

I mean, I would have a tent anyway because there were, like, hundreds of extras. So just in between for me to go sit and eat in peace. But I had Kardashians playing on the laptop and gumballs and it just kind of turned into a happy place.

Her New Favorite Reality Show and Past TV Interests

When asked by Horowitz which reality show has become her new happy place recently, Lawrence named The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, calling it “perfection.” She said,

Probably Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,

and praised how the show concluded:

I think that’s just perfection, and the way it ended. Yeah, it would probably be that.

Whitney Leavitt, a star of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, reacted to Lawrence’s fandom in November, expressing admiration:

I love that woman,

Leavitt said.

Phenomenal actress. Phenomenal human being. Like, wow.

Jennifer Lawrence’s affinity for reality TV is well established. In a 2017 interview with Oprah Winfrey for The Hollywood Reporter, when posed with the question of which three people she would invite to dinner, she famously included reality show personalities. Lawrence named Scott Disick from Keeping Up With the Kardashians, and two figures from the Real Housewives franchise, Luann de Lesseps and Bethenny Frankel, adding wryly,

And I’m not proud of that, but that’s what comes from my heart.

Her Longstanding Connection to Reality Television

Lawrence’s deep connection to reality TV dates back years. In 2014, during an interview with Vanity Fair, she was asked about her favorite binge-worthy shows and shared her difficulty picking just one. She said:

Shark Tank. Wait, oh, Dance Moms — that is a good one!

before admitting,

Okay, maybe my favorite is Dance Moms, but I do love my Real Housewives.

Her involvement with unscripted television started even earlier. Last month on Variety’s Actors on Actors series, while discussing her career beginnings with Leonardo DiCaprio, Lawrence revealed an early gig connected to the genre. She recalled,

I did an MTV promo for My Super Sweet 16,

describing a memorable moment:

I’m being carried on a chaise lounge and then they drop me.

Upcoming Projects Bridging Reality TV and Film

Looking ahead, Lawrence’s admiration for reality television may influence her future acting roles. According to Deadline, she is set to star in The Wives, a murder mystery inspired by the Real Housewives franchise, merging her worlds of scripted acting and reality show culture.

Jennifer Lawrence’s ongoing enthusiasm for reality TV highlights how such content serves as both entertainment and emotional respite for her, particularly during demanding creative endeavors. Her endorsement of shows like The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives continues to shine a spotlight on the varied appeal and cultural significance of unscripted television within the entertainment industry.
