Studiocanal has revealed the first official image of Woody Harrelson and Kristen Stewart in Quentin Dupieux’s upcoming film, Full Phil, just before the title begins its sales campaign at the European Film Market (EFM). Woody Harrelson plays Philip Doom, a wealthy American industrialist who arranges a luxury trip to Paris in an effort to reconnect with his estranged daughter, portrayed by Stewart.
Plot Elements Reflect Dupieux’s Signature Absurdist Style
The storyline introduces several distractions threatening the pair’s stay, including French cuisine, a 1950s horror movie, and a meddlesome hotel employee. These components combine to create the distinct absurd tone that has become synonymous with Dupieux’s films.
The cast also boasts Emma Mackey, Charlotte Le Bon, Tim Heidecker, and Eric Wareheim, joining Harrelson and Stewart in this international production. The trend of high-profile Hollywood actors filming in France continues with this project, following in the footsteps of Jodie Foster’s recent role in Rebecca Zlotowski’s A Private Life and Angelina Jolie’s appearance in Alice Winocour’s Couture.
Film’s Development Status and Production Team
Full Phil is currently in post-production and is lead produced by Hugo Sélignac through Chi-Fou-Mi-Productions, along with Artemis Productions and Samsa Film. Dupieux recently opened the 2024 Cannes Film Festival with his film-within-a-film, The Second Act, and his new feature is anticipated to appear at Cannes later this year, as previously forecasted by industry experts.
Full Phil’s Significance in Contemporary Cinema
This project continues Quentin Dupieux’s exploration of unconventional narratives while attracting significant acting talent like Woody Harrelson and Kristen Stewart. The collaboration signals a notable blend of American and European film influences set against the backdrop of Paris, promising a unique cinematic experience that aligns with Dupieux’s avant-garde style. Full Phil’s premiere at a major festival such as Cannes would further establish its status within the international film community and highlight ongoing cross-cultural collaborations in cinema.
