Adrien Brody, known for his roles in Asteroid City and The Brutalist, takes on a unique role as himself in TurboTax’s new 45-second commercial airing during Super Bowl LX. The ad highlights Brody as a TurboTax expert, reinforcing the brand’s message during one of the year’s biggest televised events. This campaign is designed to connect with viewers using the company’s ongoing “Now This is Taxes” messaging, launched earlier in 2024.
Campaign Collaboration and Messaging Focus
The commercial was developed alongside indie agency R/GA, emphasizing TurboTax’s commitment to making tax filing easier and less stressful for customers. Trevor Kelley, vice president of marketing at TurboTax’s parent company Intuit, explained the campaign’s goal:
“The ability for a consumer to know that they can trust the platform—that [TurboTax] will do everything in its power to make the experience somewhat painless and stressless is something that we have focused on and will continue to focus on,”
Kelley further described the Brody-led ad as an enriched expression of this core message, stating,
“enhanced version of that message: We take the pain, we take the stress, we take the drama out of taxes….Ultimately, it’s done in a very entertaining way.”
Distribution Strategy and Brand Goals
The full 45-second spot launched on Super Bowl day, following an earlier teaser released on January 26. TurboTax will also air shorter 15- and 30-second versions during the game’s pre-show programming. This marks TurboTax’s 13th consecutive year advertising during the Super Bowl, underlining its ongoing commitment to reaching a broad audience.
To complement the televised ads, a two-minute extended version will be featured on TurboTax’s digital platforms, shown in nationwide theaters, and played at select retail locations, including their new flagship store in lower Manhattan.
Impact and Future Expectations for TurboTax
This advertising effort aims to boost both brand awareness and consumer preference, as well as drive more visitors to TurboTax’s growing footprint of physical stores. By leveraging the star power of Adrien Brody and appealing storytelling, the brand hopes to reduce the stress associated with tax preparation and deepen customer trust in its services.
