Timothée Chalamet, McConaughey Reunite for CNN Town Hall

Timothée Chalamet and Matthew McConaughey will reunite for a special town hall event hosted by CNN and Variety, scheduled to air on February 21 at 7 p.m. ET. The Timothée Chalamet town hall will be filmed before a live audience of students from the University of Texas at Austin, offering an intimate look into the actors’ creative journeys and perspectives on their craft.

Connection Rooted in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar

Chalamet and McConaughey share a significant connection from their work portraying son and father, respectively, in Christopher Nolan’s 2014 science fiction film Interstellar. This town hall allows them to reflect on their experiences collaborating in that film and how those roles have shaped their artistic approaches. Chalamet, recently nominated for his third Oscar for Best Actor for Marty Supreme, and McConaughey, an Oscar-winning actor for Dallas Buyers Club who also stars in the Apple TV+ drama The Lost Bus, will engage with the audience throughout the discussion, answering questions and sharing insights.

Event Highlights Collaboration Between CNN and Variety

This event is a continuation of the partnership between Variety and CNN, following the record-breaking success of the Actors on Actors series. Amy Entelis, CNN’s vice president of originals and creative development, emphasized the value of this collaboration.

“This special event underscores the strength of CNN’s partnership with Variety and our shared commitment to thoughtful, premium experiences that bring audiences closer to the artists they admire,”

she said.

“Timothée Chalamet and Matthew McConaughey offer a masterclass in craft and creativity, which is exactly the kind of elevated programming we’re proud to bring to CNN audiences and our streaming subscribers.”

Variety’s Enthusiasm for the Reunion

Ramin Setoodeh, co-editor in chief and co-president at Variety, expressed excitement about the reunion and the unique nature of this town hall event.

“Timothee Chalamet and Matthew McConaughey first met playing father and son on the set of Christopher Nolan’s ‘Interstellar,’”

he stated.

“And at Variety, we love a reunion. Coming off the success of this season of ‘Actors on Actors,’ we are thrilled to once again collaborate with CNN on this one-of-a-kind town hall event. We can’t wait to bring together two of the most daring actors in Hollywood.”

Recent Success of Actors on Actors Series

The most recent season of Actors on Actors, which began airing in December, featured high-profile pairings like Ariana Grande and Adam Sandler, Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio, and Julia Roberts and Sean Penn. This season achieved the franchise’s largest social media reach, generating 247 million views across platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and X. All episodes remain available for CNN subscribers to stream.

Anticipated Impact and Viewer Engagement

Filmed at the University of Texas at Austin, where McConaughey has been a film instructor since 2015 through the Moody College of Communication, the town hall aims to create an engaging environment for discussion. The event’s focus on two accomplished actors sharing their creative processes and answering questions from a live crowd adds depth and authenticity, promising a compelling experience for audiences. This collaboration not only highlights CNN and Variety’s dedication to premium entertainment but also reinforces McConaughey’s ongoing connection with his alma mater and Chalamet’s rising influence in Hollywood.
