Chris Hemsworth Calls Moving to Australia His Best Choice

Chris Hemsworth, the actor known for his role as Thor, has described his family’s relocation to Australia as the best decision he has made. Speaking on the February 23 episode of the SmartLess podcast, he discussed the challenges of living in Los Angeles and how moving to a coastal town in New South Wales has changed their lifestyle. The move allowed Hemsworth and his wife, Elsa Pataky, to find a more peaceful home environment for their children away from the pressures of Hollywood.

The Challenges of Life in Los Angeles

Hemsworth explained that the family began feeling unsettled around the time his twin boys, Sasha and Tristan, were born 11 years ago.

“It was right around the time my boys were born, and it was just, we kind of were set up in L.A. and not enjoying it, you know?”

he shared. He noted that much of his filming was done outside Los Angeles, yet returning home meant constantly encountering paparazzi and the intrusive side effects of living in a celebrity-filled city.

He added,

“Like nothing was shooting there, we were filming kind of everywhere else, and then… you come home and there’s paparazzi and all the sort of, the trappings of living in that sort of space.”

The Appeal of Returning to a Rural Australian Lifestyle

For Hemsworth, relocating provided a much-needed escape from his demanding career.

“You know, when you come back from work, you want to go on a holiday,”

he said.

“Coming home, for me, feels like a holiday. We have a big farm and horses and motorbikes and surf.”

Hemsworth and Pataky, who married in 2010, made the move to a scenic coastal area in New South Wales more than ten years ago. This region is famed for its beaches, surfing opportunities, and vibrant outdoor lifestyle. At the time of their relocation, Hemsworth had already appeared in several Marvel movies, including the Thor series and Avengers films.

A Family Embracing Outdoor Life in Australia

In an earlier interview, Hemsworth and Pataky described their life raising three children away from the hustle of the United States. Pataky highlighted the year-round mild climate of their property.

“It feels like summer all year round where we live,”

she said.

“We got a big plot of land, a farm with horses, and our kids surf and fish and ride motorbikes all day… and we pretty much do the same.”

The couple places a high value on spending time together outdoors, which has become central to their family’s identity. Pataky explained,

“It’s just being able to enjoy nature. When we go to a city, it’s hard for us as a family, because we live outside, basically. We are in contact with nature all the time.”

How This Move Shapes Their Future

The decision to move from Hollywood to Australia has allowed Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky to cultivate a more grounded family life, focused on connection with nature and outdoor activities. This change reflects their priorities beyond the entertainment industry spotlight and provides a nurturing environment for their children. Their New South Wales home offers them refuge from the intensity of celebrity culture, suggesting that Hemsworth’s Australia move will continue to influence their lifestyle and family well-being in the years to come.
