David Wayne Spade (born July 22, 1964) is an American stand-up comedian, actor, and podcaster. Known for a comedic style built on sarcasm and self-deprecation, Spade has built a long career across television, film, and live performance. For his television work, he has received nominations for four Primetime Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards. In 2003, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, capping years of work in both sketch comedy and primetime sitcoms.

Spade first gained national attention as a writer and cast member on the NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live from 1990 to 1996. He went on to play Dennis Finch on the NBC sitcom Just Shoot Me! and later appeared in the ABC sitcom 8 Simple Rules and the CBS sitcom Rules of Engagement. Early Life and Background

David Wayne Spade was born on July 22, 1964, in Birmingham, Michigan, to Judith J. Meek, a writer and magazine editor, and Wayne M. “Sam” Spade, a sales representative. He has two older brothers, Bryan and Andy Spade. His brother Andy, together with David’s sister-in-law Kate Spade, co-founded the designer brand Kate Spade New York. When David was four years old, his family relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona.

His parents divorced shortly after the move, and Spade and his brothers were raised primarily by their mother, often in relative poverty. The experience of growing up in a single-parent household in Arizona shaped his outlook and gave him material that would later feed his stand-up act. Despite the financial struggles, the family remained supportive of his early interest in comedy.

Spade attended Saguaro High School and later Scottsdale Community College before transferring to Arizona State University. He was discovered by a talent agent while performing at The Improv in Los Angeles and was cast in the 1987 film Police Academy 4. With the help of friend and fellow comedian Dennis Miller, Spade joined Saturday Night Live in 1990, starting as a writer before being promoted to the cast.
