Actress Jamie Lee Curtis, known for her role in Halloween Ends, revealed a deeply emotional side of her life as she spoke candidly about her sobriety journey on Tuesday. At 67, Curtis shared a heartfelt post highlighting the crucial support she received from friends during her battle with addiction and her ongoing recovery process.
The Role of Friendship in Facing Addiction
To honor the late comedian and actor Richard Lewis, who passed away in June 2024, Curtis posted a photo from her younger years alongside him. She recounted how Lewis was instrumental in offering her a lifeline during a difficult time.
“27 years ago, I had pain and sorrow. I reached out my hand, and my old colleague and friend, Richard Lewis, reached out and took my hand. The miracle of sobriety is that it just takes one other person to relate to how you’re feeling and THAT can change everything,”
Curtis wrote.
She explained how Richard Lewis connected her to a community of individuals who shared similar struggles and triumphs.
“Richard introduced me to many others, and for these 27 years I have met so many people who share our common link of addiction and recovery from that daily prison,”
she added.
A Commitment to Supporting Others in Recovery
Curtis expressed a strong sense of responsibility to give back by reaching out to those currently battling addiction.
“I’m honored to be open with strangers, many who know me better than people I have spent my entire life with, and I try to honor all of their courage and strength and hope daily, and do what Richard did, which is reach my hand out to others in need,”
she shared.
Although she deeply mourns her friend’s loss, Curtis acknowledged that his influence continues to inspire her.
“I miss my friend, but his gift to me IS the gift that keeps on giving. @clare.foundation @friendlyhousela,”
she concluded.
Support and Encouragement from Friends and Fans
The post quickly attracted an outpouring of support from Curtis’s friends and admirers. Actress Rita Wilson praised her bravery, saying,
“What an inspiration you are. As are the many others who have chosen recovery. Brava!!!”
Uzo Aduba, known for Orange Is the New Black, added,
