The Sierra Club announced its lineup for the 2026 Trail Blazers Ball, its premier fundraising event scheduled for April 8 in Los Angeles. This year’s program will honor distinguished leaders who have contributed significantly to environmental progress, highlighting the Morgan Freeman Visionary Award as one of its key recognitions.
Honorees Include Political, Cultural, and Social Activists
The event will present a lifetime achievement award to Nancy Pelosi, the veteran politician and former Speaker of the House. Morgan Freeman, the acclaimed actor, will receive the Morgan Freeman Visionary Award for his influential work. Media icon Ted Turner is set to be recognized with the Vanguard Award, while labor and civil rights activist Dolores Huerta will accept the Changemaker Award. Additional honors include the Trail Blazer Award, bestowed upon Dr. Lyla June, Sage Lenier, and the organization Our Children’s Trust.
Leadership and Collective Action Highlighted by Sierra Club Executives
Loren Blackford, the Sierra Club’s executive director, emphasized the importance of the honorees’ roles, stating,
“These remarkable people continue to demonstrate that real climate progress depends on fearless and bold leadership,”
with an additional note that
“Whether through legislation, community organizing, philanthropy, or cultural storytelling, each honoree embodies the strength of collective effort and the urgent need to safeguard our planet for generations to come.”
Vicangelo Bulluck, chief of the Sierra Club’s Green Ventures and Partnerships and executive producer of the Trail Blazers Ball, remarked,
“Now more than ever, we need opportunities to bring us together in community to use the environmental movement’s cultural influence to inspire meaningful change.”
Complementary Events Scheduled During Climate Week and Earth Month
In addition to the main gala, the Sierra Club will organize other activities in Los Angeles to coincide with Climate Week and Earth Month. These include the Sierra Symposium on April 7 and the inaugural Sierra Sessions on April 11. The Sierra Sessions will feature performances by eco-conscious songwriters and storytellers who employ art to motivate environmental action. These events will be available to a wider audience through streaming on the Sierra Club’s YouTube channel.
